Just in time for Christmas shopping, reusable Green Bags have arrived in Saugeen Shores.
The Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce uses the bags to encourage people to use fewer plastic bags, and of course shop locally.
General Manager Joanne Robbins says there are rewards for shoppers who use the Green Bags.
She says they run a “Get Caught Shopping” promotion, and if you’re spotted with a Green Bag in a local store, you win Chamber Dollars to spend at various businesses.
Robbins says the Bags are available from local merchants, the chamber office, and can be found in both Southampton and Port Elgin.
She says some stores sell the bags, and others give them away with a purchase.
Christmas shoppers who use Green Bags this season will also get a double stamp on their Christmas Passport card.
The promotion to encourage local Christmas shopping starts on November 17th.
