With just over a month to go until the Olympic Torch Relay arrives in our area, excitement is building in Saugeen Shores for torch festivities.
Elementary and Secondary School students recently got a motivational message from a former Olympic athlete.
Kimberly Ribble-Orr competed in Judo for Canada at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
Her message to students is to not stop until you realize your dreams.
She wanted to be a ninja and was into martial arts as a little girl in Hamilton, and says “if you believe it, you can achieve it.”
Ribble-Orr says every Olympian has a story about working hard to make a dream come true.
She says with the winter Olympics coming soon to Canada, there is even more excitement right now.
Ribble-Orr says having the torch pass through Saugeen Shores brings that excitement to everybody.
Saugeen Shores Community Services Director Mike Myatt says on December 28th, the torch will arrive south of Port Elgin at 5:01 PM and travel north through Southampton.
After that, there is a public event at the Plex.
An essay contest has also been launched in schools in Saugeen Shores asking students what the Olympic Torch coming to town means to them.
