A timely display is making a return to Grey Roots Museum and Archives in Owen Sound – but with a new addition.
For the Boys – life on the homefront – returns to the museum.
The display focuses on life at home while soilders went to the battle front during the world wars.
New this year though is the display of historic war medals.
Museum registrar Pat Heslip says the display is from donations of many local veterans and their families.
Heslip says the types of medals vary but there are several bereavement medals to help families deal with the loss of a loved one.
Heslip says a silver cross is on display – it is a Canadian memorial cross given to mothers and wives of fallen soldiers.
She says that these medals of bereavement are tangible reminders for families as after the world wars many bodies were never returned to Canadian soil.
The exhibit runs until February at the Grey Roots Museum and also features ways women stepped out of their roles in every day life to keep the pace while men were away serving our country.
