Some shocking numbers from the health care file to swallow.
A report indicates five per cent of Ontarians are responsible for 84 per cent of health-care costs incurred in our province.
If you increase the first number to just 10 per cent; that chunk of the population is responsible for 95 per cent of costs.
The numbers are courtesy of President and CEO of the Ontario Hospital Association Tom Closson.
He made the observation a recent GBHS retreat – they were discussed at last night’s board of directors meeting.
GBHS president and CEO Maureen Solecki says work must be done to find out who these people are and what their needs are.
She says there may be ways to better streamline their care in order to lessen the burden on the overall system.
That means GBHS will work with other area hospitals and other health-care providers to gather the pertinent information.
Solecki says the board will be kept up to date as information becomes available.
