A new face around the Grey County OPP detachment these days.
Inspector Bob Mahlberg has arrived as the new Detachment Commander replacing Mark Van Landuyt who’s off to the OPP academy in Orillia.
Mahlberg was most recently Detachment Commander at Queens Park where he was in charge of a hundred officers who provided security for staff and visitors to the legislature.
He says he was approached about the six month position at Grey County OPP and jumped at the chance.
The OPP have changed the way they assign Detachment Commanders.
If, after the six months are up, both sides agree its a good fit — the position will be made permanent.
Inspector Mahlberg says he’s attempting to meet as many local service groups and police services boards as he can.
He’s says he’s also anxious to work together with Grey County’s policing partners — namely Owen Sound, Hanover and West Grey municipal police services.
On a personal note — Mahlberg says his wife and her elderly parents are still living in the family home near Flamboro and will move north if the position is made permanent.
