The final in a series of open houses regarding plans to create a Deep Geological Repository in Bruce County is today.
The open house is hosted by representatives from the Nuclear Waste Management Organization.
The goal is to bury nuclear waste at a site near the Bruce nuclear generating station in Tiverton.
Today’s open house is in Wiarton and the Wiarton and District Community Centre from 4 PM to 8 PM.
The DGR would be a 680 metre deep vault – and it would house low and intermediate level radioactive waste from Ontario’s nuclear power plants underground.
Approval is not expected to come for at least another two years.
This is the seventh open house this month by NWMO – others were held earlier in
Chesley, Kincardine, Ripley, Walkerton, Port Elgin and Owen Sound.
