If all goes as planned Hanover will have the former Queen’s Hotel property sold by Christmas.
The town is close to finalizing a deal with Craft Development of Etobicoke.
Craft Development plans to construct a 12 thousand square foot retail building with a loading dock and and 41 parking spaces.
Abutting properties are being purchased for the development.
Chief Building Official Don Tedford says before Hanover will issue the necessary building permit, the site plan must meet a few conditions.
The site plan must include space for the road widening that will take place on 7th Avenue and 10th Street where a new right hand turning lane will be added.
It must also be situated far enough back from the road to so one can see around the corner with ease.
The old Queen’s Hotel never allowed for that.
The site plan must also assure that the new building will be brick to blend in with the architectural features of the downtown and include landscaping plans to green up the property.
Tedford is very excited about the project and says it’s great to finally see some new development on Hanover’s west end.
Hanover acquired the old vacant Queen’s Hotel this Spring after a tax action in which the building had 97 thousand dollars in outstanding taxes.
The town had the building demolished this summer, and the lot is completely vacant.
