Residents in Kincardine will get fewer free garbage bag tags next year.
Right now, residents get 52 free bag tags mailed to them.
But Council is cutting that amount in half to 26 and residents will now have to pick them up in person and sign for them.
If you use more than your 26 tags, you’ll have to pay two dollars each for the rest.
Deputy Mayor Laura Haight — who also is Chair of Public Works — says it will encourage residents to reduce, reuse, and recycle more.
She says it will make people think of what can go into the composter or blue box, instead of the garbage bag.
Councillor Randy Roppel cast the only vote against the change.
He’s concerned how extra bag tag costs will hit low income residents, and family households.
Roppel says council should realize that those people live in the municipality and they will suffer because of the decision.
