Meaford is off to a booming start this year when it comes to construction.
Director of Planning Rob Armstrong tells us construction value for the first quarter is up almost double over last year.
By the end of March the value was sitting at 3.8 million dollars, compared to the 2 million dollars seen in the first quarter of 2009.
Armstrong says the significant increase is thanks to two major projects – one municipal and one residential.
There is the 1.9 million dollar St. Vincent water booster pumping station and a private home worth almost 800 thousand dollars.
Armstrong thinks the municipality will see this momentum carry forward throughout the year.
There are many new homes already being processed in April and he believes the trend will continue.
Armstrong says there were a lot of renovation permits last year – perhaps because of the Home Renovation Tax Credit – and he believes now we’ll see more new construction.
