Collingwood is trying to help area seniors and Hospice Georgian Triangle.
Council has approved a motion to ask staff to find a location in town so hospice can set up a stand alone palliative care facility.
Hospice Georgian Triangle currently has just two suites in Sunset Manor for this type of care.
Councillor Kathy Jeffery put forward the motion to find a location and offer the property to hospice for just two dollars for a 99 year lease so hospice can put forward a business plan.
Jeffery says there’s no way of knowing yet where the property may be, but Hospice Georgian Triangle has to have a business plan ready by January 31st, 2010.
Jeffery says it doesn’t take rocket science to see that the demand for end of life care is already at its max and will only grow as the population gets older.
She says Hospice Georgian Triangle is at 75 percent occupancy of its two suites and volunteers currently put in 8 thousand hours to provide hospice services.
