Grey County has a new Crown Attorney on the job.
Michael Martin officially took over the job on Monday, replacing the retired David Hay.
Martin has been the Assistant Crown attorney in Grey county for nearly five years.
He also was the Crown Attorney in Bruce County from 1999 to 2005.
Martin brought in a restorative justice program while in Bruce county, and it has been transferred into Grey as well.
The program introduces youth who have committed crimes to their victims, to give them a better understanding of the consequences of their actions.
Now as Crown Attorney in Grey, Martin wants to work on speeding up the Criminal justice system so cases don’t take forever to be heard.
One suggestion he has is having disclosure packages ready for the first appearance of an accused, giving them on-stop shopping for their lawyer working on the case.
He also plans on handling some court cases himself, although not as many as he has handled in the past.
