Kincardine Council is going ahead with plans to borrow money on behalf of Friends of the Kincardine Beach Pavilion so they can pay their bills.
The amount is for 350 thousand dollars over 10 years with semi-annual payments.
Friends of the Kincardine Beach Pavilion Director Barb Fisher says there was a cumulative debt against the pavilion from its previous refurbishing program.
The request for the loan was first made back in June.
Fisher says the debt is nearly 350 thousand dollars, and paying it off will allow them to start looking at some of the other improvement projects they’re considering — including a new outdoor area facing Lake Huron, and air conditioning.
Fisher notes fundraising continues and she is hopeful they will be able to apply for government grants to pay for future projects.
Fisher believes they could actually be in better financial shape than originally thought because more wedding receptions than expected were held at the pavilion this year.
The group will also start selling tickets for its May gala in December of this year.
Mayor Larry Kraemer says the Friends are dedicated to operating the pavilion and making sure it is an asset to the community.
He says they’ve attracted a lot of events to the facility over the past summer and they are committed to repaying the loan.
