Take Your Kids to Work Day isn’t happening at Bruce Power this year.
Moms and Dads were supposed to bring their children to work today.
But Spokesperson John Peevers says company health staff have advised them to cancel the day over concerns related to flu that has hit area schools recently.
He says flu-like illnesses are around and young people can carry the virus for up to 10 days without knowing they have it, so they’ve cancelled the day as a precautionary measure.
They were expecting up to 150 kids to take part, Peevers says the day will return next year.
Peevers says H1N1 and other flu-like symptoms haven’t had a big impact on staff at Bruce Power.
He says they’ve done a few educational things, mostly encouraging people to wash their hands and encouraging them to use caution.
Peevers says the lack of impact the flu has had on staff so far is good, and they want to keep it that way, which is why they decided to cancel Take Your Kids to Work Day.
