The economic downturn has not had as large an impact in Hanover as other communities.
Hanover’s Slot and Gaming Facility really is recession proof.
Slot revenue is actually up by 223 thousand dollars over this time last year.
Mayor Kathi Maskell says the town has no regrets about getting involved in the gaming business.
She says although it was quite controversial at the time, the Hanover Slots has actually been a very good program for the town.
Over the last 9 years Hanover has received 6.9 million dollars in slot revenue.
All of this money has been set aside for capital projects like road and sewer work.
The slot revenue has also helped finance projects like Hanover’s Medical Clinic and Heritage Square Park.
And Maskell notes it has helped stabilize Hanover’s tax rate.
