For the second time this month, South Bruce Peninsula council has voted NOT to hire a consultant for the planned upgrades at Bluewater Park in Wiarton.
The hiring was voted down October 13th, then revisited at the Committee of the whole meeting last week, and then voted on October 27th.
Councillor Dan Kerr can’t believe the move to hire a professional consultant was turned down again, by a vote of 3-2.
Kerr is afraid the town will lose a nearly one million dollar infrastructure grant now.
He says without an outside consultant, South Bruce Peninsula wouldn’t qualify for the huge grant money.
Kerr adds, the project has to be done by March of 2011 or they also wouldn’t qualify and the clock is ticking.
There has been opposition to the upgrades, which would include the elimination of some 50 overnight campsites to make way for winter storage for boats and a waterfront tourist booth.
Kerr says the whole project is now in limbo because the hiring has been voted down twice and likely won’t come back to council for some time.
