Christmas has come early to 18 graduates from St. Mary’s high school in Owen Sound and Sacred Heart High School in Walkerton.
They are the recipients of this year’s Queen Elizabeth II Aiming for the Top Scholarship Program.
This is a provincial program that rewards students who graduate with top marks at their high school.
Scholarships are worth up to 35 hundred dollars a year for up to four years providing recipients maintain an 80 per cent average at the post secondary level.
Catholic Director of Education Bruce MacPherson calls it a very lucrative scholarship that should help take the sting out of post secondary education costs.
He says the School Board is very proud of the accomplishments of these 18 students.
MacPherson hopes other St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart high school students will be inspired to do their best to win a scholarship.
Of the 18 recipients, 9 are graduates of St. Mary’s and 9 of Sacred Heart High School.
