The Saugeen Conservation Authority is organizing a Forest Festival for next Fall.
As Bayshore Broadcasting News Robyn Garvey tells us — it will be much like the popular Grey Bruce Children’s Water Festival.
Conservation Education Co-ordinator Nancy Griffin says the three day Forest Festival will be held at the Allan Park Conservation Area next October.
About 900 Grade seven students will be guided through 35 hands on activities stations.
Griffin hopes students will develop a much deeper awareness and understanding of the importance of forest resources, the environment and their interdependence.
Griffin adds the festival may even spark interest among students about forest sector careers.
The Forest Festival activities will tie into the Grade 7 curriculum.
Like the Water Festival, the Forest Festival will rely on volunteers and high school students to man each activity station.
It’s going to cost about 60 thousand dollars to put on the first Forest Festival.
The plan is to make the Forest Festival an annual event.
