The Grey-Bruce Health Unit has an answer about why there aren’t any H1N1 vaccination clinics so far scheduled for communities in southern Bruce County and along the lakeshore.
Spokesperson Drew Ferguson says all they’ve done is add the H1N1 vaccine for those in the priority group first to clinics that were already planned for the seasonal flu virus.
All of the clinics currently listed on the health unit website for the next week are in Owen Sound, other communities in Grey County, or on the Bruce Peninsula. None are listed for Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, Walkerton, or Teeswater.
Ferguson says they are examining the feasibility of adding extra clinics to the schedule.
He says it’s a matter of being able to marshall resources, especially with concerns about vaccine availability, and that’s why clinics are still only open to those in the “priority” group.
Ferguson says an H1N1 clinic has been added for Monday at the Health Unit Office in Owen Sound from 10 AM to 7 PM.
He says 25 thousand units of H1N1 vaccine arrived in Grey-Bruce this week and they’re getting out as fast as it comes in.
Ferguson says it does no good sitting in the refrigerator at the health unit.
