A young up and coming folk singer – songwriter who died in a coyote attack out East has Family connections in Owen Sound.
19 year Taylor Mitchell was born and grew up in Toronto, but her Great Grandfather helped establish McKay Brothers in Owen Sound in the 1905.
Many of her family still live in the Owen Sound area, and they have a family cottage on Georgian Bay.
Taylor Mitchell’s Manager, Lisa Weitz says Mitchell was recently nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award and was on her debut East Coast tour.
She was hiking alone on the Skyline Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park Tuesday, when the rare coyote attack occurred.
Weitz tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, although Taylor grew up in Toronto, her mother Emily Mitchell tells her the burial will be in Owen Sound.
Funeral services and the burial are still being arranged for Taylor Mitchell.
Meanwhile, authorities continue to hunt for a couple of coyotes involved in the fatal attack.
R-C-M-P officers shot one of the two animals, apparently wounding it, but both managed to get away.
