A move by a local MPP to force a moratorium on new construction of Wind Turbines in Ontario has fallen flat.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch tried to get a motion thru the legislature yesterday, but it was defeated.
All 26 Liberal and one NDP member present in the House Thursday afternoon voted against Murdochs resolution.
Murdoch was disappointed but not surprised because as usual the members are forced to vote along party lines, and not how they truely feel.
His biggest disappointment came from Liberal MPP Carol Mitchell in Huron Bruce.
She wasn’t in the legislature, but another MPP read a statement from Mitchell that said she couldn’t support a moratorium.
Mitchell is quoted as saying “because there was no science-based evidence was brought forward to suggest that wind turbine developments were causing adverse health affects she would not support the resolution.”
Even though his wind farm moratorium resolution was defeated, Murdoch is optimistic that he has at least helped raise awareness of the health issues.
Murdoch says one minor victory is that the Chief Medical Officer of Health has announced in committee she will be reviewing all the information on the health effects of wind turbines.
