The McGuinty governments full day kindergarten program is raising concern among the local Catholic Elementary Teachers Union.
President Anna Morrison fears the full day program will result in larger class sizes.
Early reports suggest class size will rise from 20 to 26 students.
Morrison says that is troublesome since teachers unions have fought tirelessly over the last few years to get these primary class sizes capped at 20.
Morrison says the province will have to ensure there is proper support in place to address increases in class size.
The province plans to pair teachers with early childhood educators in order to lessen the student to adult ratio.
The program won’t be fully implemented until 2015 and its expected to cost 1.5 billion dollars annually.
The province has committed 500 million dollars over the next two years for the program.
The Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board is hopeful it will be one of the school boards selected to participate in the program next year.
