The battle over wind turbines goes to the floor of the Ontario Legislature today
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch is presenting a resolution at Queens Park that calls for a moratorium on new wind turbine construction in the province.
Murdoch admits it is a long shot, and it won’t affect ones already built, or under construction.
However, Bill Murdoch says the McGuinty government is expecting one thousand wind turbines to be built by 2012.
The local MPP wants the Ministry of Health and Ontario’s chief medical officer of health, to declare whether there is any impact on the health of people living near turbines.
Hundreds of people turned out for recent meetings in the Grey-Bruce area on the issue of wind turbines, with many claiming adverse health effects.
Those impacts include sleep depravation and heart palpitations.
The Tory MPP wants anyone concerned about the wind turbines to show up at Queens Park at 11 AM today and support his resolution.
Georgian Bluffs resident, Wendy McKee has been organizing opponents to head to Queens Park for a rally.
Grey Highlands wind turbine opponent, Lorrie Gillis calls the vote on a moratorium in the Ontario legislature “critical”.
She wants people to bring signs.
For those catching the bus — it will leave the Chatsworth Community Center at 7:30 AM and stop across from Markdale Foodland at 8 AM, Flesherton Home Hardware at 8:10 AM and at the Dundalk turnoff on Highway 10 at 8:25 AM.
Murdoch also urges residents to call their MPP’s, e-mail or mail them on the issue.
More than 700 wind turbines are operating in Ontario and many more are planned.
