Ontario will start phasing in full-day learning for four- and five-year-olds next fall as part of the province’s plan to build a well-educated workforce.
Huron Bruce Liberal MPP Carol Mitchell says up to 35 thousand kindergarten students across Ontario will be enrolled in full-day learning in September, 2010.
Mitchell says no area has been pinpointed yet for the start of the program but she says parts of her riding could be considered an area in need.
She says officials will have to look at needs of the area and the capacity of the schools.
Mitchell recognizes this program as contininuing the government’s commitment to build a strong workforce of the future in Ontario.
The goal announced Tuesday morning is to have the program for four- and five-year-olds fully implemented in all schools by 2015-16.
Four-and five-year-olds will learn under the guidance of a teacher and an early childhood educator.
