A friend when you need it most – needs your help.
Victim Services of Bruce Grey – Owen Sound is a program that helps people cope with the impact of crime or tragic circumstance.
Program Coordinator for North Bruce Grey – Mary Kay Ramer- says the time is now to volunteer.
Volunteers help people deal with a variety of very serious issues – from dealing with a sudden death – to domestic abuse – even cyber bullying.
Ramer says they have the information that is needed to help people cope with unforeseen circumstances – and where to seek help.
Ramer said they are usually called in by police services and are averaging 70 calls monthly.
Ramer says they are looking for people 19 years and older that can donate 12 hours of their time weekly – it is a 24 hour service.
Volunteers carry pagers with them and never go to a scene alone.
The program offers training for volunteers and gives them all the necessary information needed to help the victims.
Volunteers should have a vehicle readily available as it is a travelling service.
Anyone who would like to volunteer can go to their web site at www.victim-services.com
