Safe Communities Canada President Paul Kells says safety ambassador robots are catching on elsewhere in the country.
Kells was on hand on Monday night to present Safe Communities Bruce with the “2009 Safe Communities Canada – Award of Excellence” in Kincardine.
He says the two child-sized robots Sam and Suzie that Bruce introduced — have been an inspiration to “Safe Communities” across the country.
Kells says a number of communities are now trying to secure their own robotic safety mascots.
Sam and Suzie were a big reason the Bruce group won the award — which Kells says speaks to how dedicated the volunteer group is at being innovative.
Barb Goetz, Co-Chair Safe Communities Bruce, was thrilled to win the national award.
She says everyone at the awards ceremony should be thanked because so many of the area’s community groups contributed to their cause.
As for robots Sam and Suzie, Goetz says they simply attract kids and engage them in conversation.
She isn’t surprised more communities are looking into safety ambassador robots themselves.
