The number of elementary schools using the rotary system in the Bluewater public board has increased by 21 per cent.
Back in June, trustees passed a motion allowing principals to use the system for up to 50 per cent of a student’s day, if it was felt it would benefit how the school operates.
Rotary is the format where teachers with a particular specialization like music teach students instead of their regular homeroom teacher.
Superintendent of Elementary Education Marnie Coke says nine schools decided to increase rotary to the 50 per cent level.
Any future changes to rotary must first go before the School Council for each particular school.
Coke says when trustees passed the motion in June, most schools had already held school council meetings, but in all cases where rotary has increased, administrators have talked with the council members and reached an agreement.
Coke says allowing principals to decide if more rotary is good for their students in turn increases the number of teachers a student has contact with.
