The Municipal Heritage Committee in Saugeen Shores has given this year’s Heritage Conservation Award to the Dunblane Church Committee.
The church was built in 1859 and was the first place of worship for many of the first settlers.
The five-member group looks after the historic old Presbyterian church on Concession 7.
It stopped holding regular services in 1968, but is open each summer for special services and other events.
Vice Deputy Mayor Doug Gowanlock says his family has been connected with the church for 150 years.
His great-great grandfather was one of the people who helped build the church, and his mother Janet and aunt Elda Grieve are on the committee.
Other committee members are Kent Lamont, Margery Campbell, Reverand Harvey Osborne and Reverand Chuck Moon.
Committee Member Marilyn Scott says receiving the award is a great honour and the committee takes great pride in looking after the church.
Scott says some of the things they look after include fixing the roof, keeping the church painted, clean inside, and maintaining the grounds.
A service celebrating the 150th anniversary of Dunblane Presbyterian Church was held in August.
The Town of Saugeen Shores has erected a heritage plaque at the site.
