A Port Elgin marathon runner has been busy preparing for his most important race yet.
Matt Barfoot has been collecting pledges for the Niagara Falls Marathon – and all the money raised will go to the Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce.
The 29 year old says it’s a cause near to his heart because his grandfather suffered from the disease and it had a big impact on his family.
Barfoot says this will be his 8th marathon and he’s always admired the competitors he’s seen who have dedicated their run to a cause.
The Bruce Power engineer also says the state of the economy was a factor in his decision to collect pledges, with many charitable organizations seeing a drop in donations.
Barfoot is hoping to raise two thousand dollars, but says he is also happy to just raise awareness about the Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce and all they do.
If you want to make a pledge, you can contact the Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce by phone or over their website.
The Niagara Falls Marathon will be held tomorrow and Barfoot will be collecting pledges right up until the 10 AM start time.
He is also hoping to run the marathon in under 3 hours and 10 minutes, in order to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
