Four members of Owen Sound Council will sit on a new wastewater treatment plant steering committee.
The ad hoc committee has been formed to provide guidance into the upgrading work to be done at the plant, work that will cost an estimated 45 million dollars.
City manager Jim Harrold recommended to council that it decide whether three or four councillors should sit on the committee, and which members would get the nod.
Councillors Bill Twaddle, Peter Lemon, Tom Pink, John Christie and Jim McManaman all put their names forward.
Christie later withdrew his name from consideration.
Harrold says a four-member committee is ideal because it provides for more flexibility in case one or more members are away for whatever reason.
The treatment plant project is currently undergoing an environmental assessment.
The committee will provide leadership to that process and steer the project through future steps.
These steps will include a business case analysis, the project design, funding and financing options, construction options and more.
The federal and provincial governments have committed 30 million dollars toward the estimated cost.
That leaves the city with the responsibility of paying for the other 15 million.
