The future of Bluewater park in Wiarton is back on the table this week.
It comes to the Committee of the Whole meeting of South Bruce Peninsula council today.
Last week, Council voted not to hire a consultant for the park project.
That threw the whole plan in limbo because without an outside consultant, the town would not qualify for infrastructure funding.
Council has recently received nearly a million dollars in infrastructure money for the upgrades at Bluewater park, meaning South Bruce Peninsula has to come up with 475 thousand dollars.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of South Bruce Peninsula is defending the planned improvements to the Wiarton waterfront Park.
As Bayshore Broadcasting News reported, not everyone is happy about the plan.
Bluewater RV Sales owner Lonnie Bray is fighting the changes, which would eliminate some 50 overnight campsites to make way for a winter storage facility for boats, and a waterfront tourist information booth.
He says nearly two dozen seasonal waterfront campsites would be moved back from the water to make way for expanded walking trails and picnic areas.
Mayor Gwen Gilbert says the claim that the proposed changes will have a negative impact on tourism is simply not true.
Gilbert also disputes Bray’s claim that this is being rushed thru council.
Mayor Gilbert says Council has appointed a steering committee to look at the concerns of residents and they have hired a firm to come in and review the overall plan.
She says the plan dates back nearly two decades and has been debated in the past.
