Knights’ of Meaford is officially on the move.
Meaford council has passed a by-law to provide services at the company’s new location on Highway 26, east of Macdonald’s Furniture and Bill’s Valu-Mart.
Mayor Francis Richardson says Knights’ will provide 122-thousand dollars for the installation of water and sewer lines at the site.
Richardson says it took a long time to hammer out this agreement.
He says putting in services is a very costly undertaking and so they had to find a solution that would be economically feasible for everyone involved.
Richardson explains an opportunity presented itself when the municipality received word of infrastructure funding for a new water booster station.
He says the federal and provincial governments have allowed the installation of services in the area to be considered part of the project.
That means Knights’ could be reimbursed the two thirds of government funding – or about 75-thousand dollars.
Richardson says what’s also important is the fact that the work will happen right away.
Knights’ has been planning for awhile now to leave their residential location on Edwin Street, near Georgian Bay Secondary School, and move out to Highway 26.
The servicing work is expected to begin in a few weeks, and Knights’ of Meaford plans on expanding the current warehouse on the site for their home building centre.
Richardson says the company’s move is great news for the entire municipality.
He hopes the highly visible – and soon to be fully serviced – highway location will entice further development to the area.
