Charges have now been laid after a fatal explosion north of Owen Sound more than a year ago.
60 year old John Walter was badly burned in the propane explosion that destroyed his East Linton house in September 2008.
He died in hospital days later.
Walter’s wife was also in the home at the time of the blast but escaped injury.
Ministry of Labour spokesperson Bruce Skeaff says a total of six charges have now been filed under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Four of the charges are against Aecon Construction Group Inc. – the company installing natural gas to the Walter’s house.
The remaining two charges are against a company supervisor – whose name is not being released.
Skeaff says the charges involve failure to ask whether there were any services, including gas, at an excavation site, failure to be informed there were services at the site, and failure to instruct the employees working at the site that there were potential hazards.
While the explosion happened on September 26th 2008, the charges were just laid on August 27th, 2009.
Skeaff says that’s typical and adds they have always have a year to complete their investigation.
The case will be heard in the Ontario Court of Justice on November 5th.
