Ontario Health Promotion Minister Margarett Best visited Owen Sound on Tuesday night to help kick off today’s Healthy Communities Conference at the Bayshore.
Best told the gathering that health promotion transcends any one institution or level of government.
It’s a shared responsibility and everyone has a role to play.
She discussed the provincial government’s initiatives for local health promotion and said she welcomes ideas to attract more non-traditional partners to the promotion of better health.
This conference is unique in that it brings together municipal and community leaders, land use planners, educators, businesses, First Nations, health and social service sectors and other members of the community.
There are 190 delegates who will give speeches and presentations and conduct workshops today to raise awareness of healthy community issues, support action plans to enhance health in the community and build partnerships for healthy community development.
Best says she awaits the results of this conference and looks forward to further collaborations with the Grey Bruce Health Unit and its partners.
