You know winter can’t be far off when the Chi-Cheemaun heads home to Owen Sound for its annual lay up.
The Big Canoe’s annual fall cruise takes place today when the ferry leaves Tobermory and sails down the Peninsula into Owen Sound Harbour.
Manager of Operations for the Owen Sound Transportation Company Ian Dean says passengers will leave the city around 9 AM and be bussed to Tobermory where they will board the ship.
The Chi Cheemaun then will leave Tobermory for the trip and arrive in Owen Sound around 3:30 PM in the afternoon.
Dean says its always a party like atmosphere on board the ship with musical entertainment.
He says the trees still have a lot of leaves that have turned so the view from the ship up towards the escarpment should be breathtaking.
Dean says the season is ending on a bit of an up note as traffic on the Big Canoe picked up in September from the summer months because of the better than average weather.
He says earlier in the year, traffic volume was off by almost 12 per cent because of the cool wet weather.
But in the fall that improved to being down just about 4 per cent.
