The scissors were out in Brockton as Mayor Charlie Bagnato cut his ponytail off.
About 10 people gathered at the Walkerton Legion Wednesday to watch the Mayor’s wife Janet do the honours.
The Mayor says he’s had the hairstyle for 20 years because it was simple to look after — but he’s recently run into some complaints about it.
Bagnato is running for the federal Liberal nomination in Huron-Bruce.
Many party members told Bagnato he’s done a good job as mayor but they couldn’t support him at a higher level because of his long hair.
So, Bagnato decided to have it cut off as a way of representing the will of the people.
His wife says it was time for the ponytail to go anyway.
The haircut raised 12 hundred dollars for the Canadian Cancer Society through Cops for Cancer.
The Mayor jokes it will be a lot easier now to wash and dry his hair in the morning — and he needs a scarf now for the back of his neck in cold weather.
Bagnato will find out tonight if his haircut paid off politically when Liberals in Huron-Bruce select their candidate for the next federal election.
The meeting starts at 7 PM at the Lucknow Community Centre.
