Organizers are calling it the “OSCA’s”.
The Owen Sound Cultural Awards — complete with red carpet and as much glitz as the Scenic City can muster — will be handed out tonight.
Its the first year for the honours and Chair of the City’s Cultural Advisory Committee, Michael Milhausen admits they’re a long time in coming.
He says the seed for the awards ceremony was planted after Owen Sound was deemed a cultural capital of Canada five years ago.
The awards will honour residents in several categories including literary, visual and media arts, theatre, dance, music as well as patrons of the arts in Owen Sound.
There were 50 nominations in total with plenty of well known names on the list including the Owen Sound Little Theatre, Grey Roots, Dance Makers, Sheila Milne, Anne Milne School of Dance, Larry Jensen, Tanglefoot, Tara and Trevor MacKenzie, Rob Dinsmore, Brent Jeffries, Allen Smutylo, Alfie Fromager and many others.
The winners will be selected by a jury and announced at tonight’s gala awards ceremony at the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound.
The event starts at 7:30 PM with tickets available at the box office – they cost 16 dollars for adults and 10 dollars for students.
