Chatsworth residents are being invited once again to voice their opinions about the township’s electoral system.
A public meeting will be held tonight at 7:30 PM in the council chambers at the township office.
Mayor Howard Greig tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they want to follow up a survey conducted earlier this year.
Greig says he considers the results of that survey practically a tie, with 54/46 split in favour of keeping the current ward system.
He adds there’s been continued interest from some residents in moving to an at-large system.
Greig says the options don’t have to be as cut and dry as either keeping the status quo or moving to an at-large system.
He says they could also go the route of moving from four wards to three and holding at-large elections for the mayor and deputy mayor.
Greig says he would like a decision made soon so that any changes can be put in place in time for next year’s election.
But he says if that can’t happen, they may put the issue on the ballot as a referendum question and any changes voted on would then be put in place for the next election in 2014.
