If you’re against the harmonized sales tax (HST) coming soon to Ontario, then Ottawa-Carleton Progressive Conservative MPP Lisa MacLeod wants to hear from you.
MacLeod has created a site at daltonsalestax.com with a petition where you can add your name to what she says is the growing list of outraged taxpayers.
MacLeod says the website will also spell out what items are going to taxed and there’s a calculator to tell you how much that item will cost you weekly, monthly or yearly.
She says the HST amounts to a three billion dollar tax grab so the McGuinty government can spend more on scandals like OLG or e-health.
MacLeod says there is no doubt the “underground economy” is going to grow by leaps and bounds once the HST kicks in next July.
She says in her native province of Nova Scotia when a tax was introduced to the home building industry, it was suggested one third of the industry remained; one third went underground and one third went out of business.
MacLeod says she regularly presents the e-petitions to the legislature at Queen’s Park and will continue to do so.
The HST is scheduled to become law by next July 1st and once in place cannot be rescinded for five years.
