Time is running out for you to donate items to the Salvation Army Food Bank.
The trucks in our radio station parking lots in Owen Sound and Port Elgin will be available for you to drop off food items until Saturday morning.
You can also drop off money as the Salvation Army will use a one dollar donation to buy seven dollars worth of food.
The Workers Trades Committee of Restart A at Bruce Power donated $1015 in Port Elgin today.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller also donated over 600 dollars Friday morning in Owen Sound.
Miller says the money was raised last Spring when he teamed up with an Edmonton area MP for an event called “Western Days in the East.”
That is when people wearing ties were forced to donate to the cause — and the two MP’s split the proceeds.
Miller says it’s unfortunate that we have to have a food bank but he is grateful for the tremendous support for the community.
Miller also defends the social funding from his federal government that gets transferred through the province to municipalities.
Miller says the money is never enough but he notes they continue to review what the funding levels should be.
The Owen Sound Salvation Army reports a 68 per cent increase in demand for the local food bank.
More than 700 thousand Canadians — including families, seniors and students — turn to food banks in an average month.
