Big changes are planned for Bluewater Park in Wiarton and not everyone is happy about it.
Those changes would eliminate some 50 overnight campsites take make way for a winter storage facility for boats, and a waterfront tourist information booth.
At the same time, nearly two dozen seasonal waterfront campsites would be moved back from the water to make way for expanded walking trails and picnic areas.
There has been opposition at South Bruce Peninsula Council meetings, mainly from seasonal campers.
Bluewater RV Sales owner Lonnie Bray is also fighting the proposed changes.
He says a couple of people on council are pushing to make the changes, mainly because they have a nearly 1 million dollar infrastructure funding grant.
The town would pay 475 thousand dollars for the project, but Bray says it will have a huge impact on summer tourism in Wiarton.
Bray says he presented South Bruce Peninsula council with a list of 12 questions in August and they appointed Public Works Manager Brad Roberts to deal with them, but he has never received any response.
Council has appointed a steering committee to look at the concerns of residents, but the local businessman doesn’t hold out a lot of hope the changes can be stopped.
Bray says with most seasonal campers gone, there is little opposition left thru the winter and he feels council will go ahead with the project.
