So far so good.
Goderich Street in Port Elgin, between Market and Catherine Streets now has a two-hour parking limit on both sides of the street.
Town director of public works Bill Jones says the new bylaw came into effect in mid-August when the correct signs were posted.
It allows 2-hour parking, Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 6 PM.
Jones says the idea is to get more traffic flow in the prime business area parking spots.
Originally the parking time on Goderich had been unlimited.
The new by-law replaces three old by-laws for Port Elgin, Southampton, and Saugeen Township.
It is one of the last by-laws to be merged since amalgamation.
Jones says now everything is the same in downtown Port Elgin where sidestreets have always had a 2-hour parking time limit.
He says the town has not received any complaints about the change but he wasn’t sure if any business owners in the affected area had received any.
Jones says another benefit of the new bylaw allowed the town to add three new handicapped parking spots in the downtown area.
