An arm wrestler from the Collingwood area has won in Italy.
Earl Wilson says he won 3 gold medals at the 31st world arm wrestling championships.
He says he won the Grand Masters Right and Left, and the Masters Left.
Wilson is lives in Nottawa, and works for the Collingwood Public Works Department.
In total, Wilson says he’s won 11 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze medals at the world level.
At the national level, he has taken home 23 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze medals.
Wilson says he never thought he would win this much.
He says this year he knew there were going to be lots of competition in Italy, but he didn’t expect there to be 16 hundred people, and 48 countries.
There were 1 thousand last year.
Wilson says he had 30 competitors each day for 4 days, and that left him emotionally tired and physically burnt out.
He says besides the medals, he also came back with the respect of his competitors and their coaches because of the way he conducted himself during the tournament.
Wilson says his only goal was to give the young guys all the grief they can handle.
He says there is now a match at the end of October in Nova Scotia between him and the World Right Hand Master winner.
Wilson says it should be good, because they both don’t like to lose.
