The Town of Saugeen Shores wants to install a big plastic pipe to carry utilities under the Saugeen River in Southampton.
Bore hole testing underneath the river will determine if the conduit can be built.
Mayor Mike Smith says it could be used as a sewage forcemain if plans to extend sewers north of the Saugeen River go ahead.
Other possible uses for the conduit include a watermain and telecommunications cables.
Smith says the town has considered installing a conduit under the river before, and is something that will be needed, sooner or later.
The Mayor says if testing proves the passage way can be built, it will be there for whatever need the town has.
The 250 thousand dollar bore hole testing work won’t start until approval has been given from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Saugeen Conservation.
