Bruce County beef and pork were recently being promoted to officials in China by a local MP.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound Conservative MP Larry Miller met with Chinese International Affairs and talked about the importance of access to the Chinese market.
While there Miller — who is Chair of the Commons Agriculture and Agri Food Committee — also meet with representatives of the National Peoples Congress.
He tells Bayshore Broadcasting News there was some positive feedback from Chinese officials about Canadian beef and pork.
While in Hong Kong and Macau — Miller was told they were having trouble getting enough Canadian meat, which he said is a good sign.
The local MP also told Canada’s Agriculture Minister when he returned to Ottawa, that the Chinese officials are looking forward to his trip to China in the near future.
That trip is set for January of next year.
Miller says while in China he was amazed to see the rapid growth underway, everywhere he went.
The local MP says with 1.3 billion people in China, it represents a huge opportunity for Canadian beef and pork producers.
