Grey County OPP are investigating a single vehicle crash that shut down a section of Highway 26 Sunday morning.
Police say just before 8:30 AM, an officer on patrol noticed a van being driven erratically on Sykes Street North in Meaford.
The officer attempted to pull over the vehicle but the driver refused.
The van left Meaford westbound on Highway 26 and the driver continued to ignore the police cruiser even though its lights were on.
Police say the van was being driven at high speeds and weaving across the highway.
Eventually, just east of Owen Sound near Concession Road 6, the van left the road, hit the ditch, and crashed into a utility pole.
The 78 year old Meaford man behind the wheel was taken to hospital in Owen Sound.
Police say the extent of his injuries are not known but they are not believed to be life threatening.
There’s no word yet on whether charges will be laid.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Highway 26 was closed between the 5th Concession and the 11th Line for just over an hour and has since been reopened.
