Autumn is a beautiful time to head outdoors to check out the fall colours – a great time to celebrate the Bruce Trail.
Tomorrow is Bruce Trail Day, when trail associations from Tobermory and straight south invite people to come see all the trail has to offer.
Don McIlraith is the President Peninsula Bruce Trail Club and he suggests joining the club on one of two planned hikes.
Both start at 10 AM Sunday.
One starts at Rural Roots just west of Wiarton on the quarry road – the owners of Rural Roots will be leading the hike.
The other is at the Carin at the northern end of Tobermory to Little Cove – that section of the trail has just been re-worked this summer.
That hike will be lead by Bruce Trail leaders.
McIlraith says this is a great opportunity to see all the trail has to offer – but cautions most of the trail is not stroller or wheelchair friendly.
McIlraith adds that while people with dogs will no be turned away – perhaps consider leaving them at home as the terrain can get a little rough.
If you do bring a dog it must remain leashed.
He reminds hikers to come prepared for the elements and wear proper footwear.
McIlraith says along the trail there will be almost 15 hikes throughout Ontario on Sunday.
He says at the hike starting points their will be information on becoming a trail member and/or volunteering at trail events.
While the trail is featured this day – it is open year round and there are even winter planned hikes already set for the upcoming months.
McIlraith does say this even is completely free – donations to the trail society are always welcome.
