The municipality of Kincardine has held its first public session on a new Community Plan.
Council decided to go ahead with the process back in May with the hope of building on an earlier strategic plan and developing a vision statement for the municipality.
Mayor Larry Kraemer says a diverse group of about 35 people attended the meeting on Tuesday with good representation from youth, seniors, and business people.
Kraemer says they were most interested in recreation, economic development, and the business of the municipality.
Kraemer says the first meeting was basically designed to identify strengths and weaknesses of the municipality and what current and future trends are.
He says the next meeting will allow people to bring forward ideas on the direction the municipality should head in.
Kraemer says the strong points identified at the meeting are Kincardine’s secure employment because of Bruce Power, along with strong tourism and farm sectors.
He says one of the weak spots is an issue “near and dear” to him — and that’s the need for post-secondary education opportunities in the municipality.
Kraemer says having access to post-secondary learning would help secure growth and long-term opportunities for young people and businesses.
The next Community Plan meeting in Kincardine takes place on October 29 at 6 PM at the Municipal Administration Centre.
