The health effects of Wind Turbines are taking centre stage at two public forum meetings.
The Grey Bruce Health unit is hosting the forums starting tonigh in Owen Sound.
Andrew Barton – Manager Health Hazard Program Grey Bruce Health Unit – says the event is to talk in depth about the health issues surrounding the effect of living near turbines.
The forum will feature Dr. Ray Copes – the Director of Environmental and Occupational Health.
Doctor Copes works with the Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion.
He will be presenting “Wind Turbines and Health: A Review of Evidence”.
Barton says Doctor Copes is newer to the position but comes with an impressive resume for health research.
Barton says there are difficulties in studying the health effects of turbines specifically — but the side effects people are reporting can be studied.
These side effects include insomnia and stress.
Barton stresses only about 20 people have come forward that apparently suffer from these side effects.
Barton says all will find the event interesting.
Barton says while there will be no parliamentary rep to talk about the new Green Energy Act regulations — there will be a few members of the MOA to talk about the acoustics of the turbines.
Thursday’S forum will happen at the Grey Bruce Health Unit in Owen Sound from 7 PM to 10 PM.
The second will run next Tuesday at the Victoria Jubilee Hall in Walkerton at 7 PM.
