A preliminary insurance cheque has been cut for West Grey to rebuild the Durham Activity centre which was destroyed by a tornado in August.
Mayor Kevin Eccles says the old building was valued at 476 thousand dollars, and a representative of Aviva Canada has given the town a cheque to get work going on a new building.
Eccles says if the cost is higher than the value of the old building, the insurance company will make up the difference.
Tenders will be called in the next few weeks, and the West Grey mayor hopes the new building can be closed in before inclement weather hits.
The two story building was one of several heavily damaged or destroyed in the late summer storm that rolled thru Grey County.
Mayor Eccles says as far as he knows, the insurance companies have been good at getting the money in the hands of the affected homeowners and businesses, so they can rebuild their lives in West Grey.
