The President of the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) is the latest to comment on the Green Energy Act announcements on wind turbine development.
Robert Hornung says he’s disappointed with the ruling on the amount of space between a residence and a turbine.
The rules state projects of five industrial wind turbines or less will have to be at least 550 metres away from the nearest home.
Hornung says his association will abide by the ruling but he expects it will pose a challenge for some projects that will likely lead to re-designs.
He says he favours the earlier ruling where location was dictated by level of sound of the turbines along with the topography of the land where the turbines were situated.
Nevertheless, Hornung says all projects will be in compliance with the new regulation.
He says the Green Energy Act is a precedent-setting piece of legislation though, that is expected to stimulate investment into the renewable energy sector in Ontario and they look forward to providing that investment in the future.
